Steve & Pat’s Bon Temps Grill

On a recent date night, my husband I had an absolutely delightful meal at Steve & Pat’s Bon Temps Grill. This fairly new restaurant in Lafayette describes their food as “swamp edge cuisine.” Now I have no idea what that really means, but it is definitely flavorful and memorable. The atmosphere of this restaurant is laid back and comfortable. We were quickly seated, greeted at our table, and told the drink specials. They have a good variety of local beers and interesting specialty drinks. They host happy hour Monday through Saturday from 3pm-6pm. With our drinks we were brought some lovely garlic bread. When we tasted this bread, we knew we were in for a good meal.

For our appetizer, we ordered the NOLA Shrimp & Grits.

The plating of this dish was really nice and made us excited to dig in. The shrimp were full of flavor and the grits were jalapeno cheese grits and were so good. For his main dish, Cory ordered the 18oz Ribeye with Sage Sweet Potato Mash and Bon Temps Zucchini.

I ordered the special of the night which was Beef Wellington with a Grilled Vegetable Skewer.

Once again, the presentation of both of our dishes was spot on. We both had some of each dish, and they were both exceptional. The steak was perfectly cooked and basically melted in your mouth. The Beef Wellington was steak with smothered mushrooms in a gravy that was cooked in a light, fluffy puff pastry. It was rich and so flavorful. I didn’t get to try Cory’s zucchini, but they must have been good because they were gone pretty quickly after the food was delivered. The sage sweet potato mash was so good that I could’ve eaten a whole bowl of just that. If I had to pick something that wasn’t quite up to the standards of everything else, it would be the grilled vegetable skewer. The vegetables were well cooked and tasted good, but weren’t overly interesting and special. There’s not too much you can really do with grilled vegetables.

Overall, we had an amazing meal. The service was spot on, the atmosphere was inviting, and the food was great. The restaurant is pretty small, and if they aren’t already pretty busy, I am sure they will be as the word gets out. We will definitely be returning to try more of their wonderful food.
